Motorcycle Awareness Month | May 2014

Motorcyclists have all the same rights and privileges as any motor vehicle driver on the roadway. During Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in May – and during the rest of the year – drivers of all other vehicles and all road users are reminded to safely “share the road” with motorcyclists, and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe.

Use these tips to help share the road and keep every motorist safe year-round:

  • Be extra cautious on the road, having a large moving object like a car in your blind spot is completely different than a motorcycle.
  • Give an extra 5 seconds before switching lanes during the warm weather and summer months.
  • Spread the word about increasing motorcyclists’ safety.
  • Support and enhance your motorcycle safety awareness programs.

With these tips you should keep yourself and motorcyclists safe on the road. Serious injury in an accident involving a truck, a bus, or another kind of motor vehicle usually results from a failure to follow the traffic rules.
