Mom Wins $8.5 Million Verdict in Fatal Police Shooting of Son

In 2007, 18 year old Aaron Harrison was shot in the back while running from the Chicago police. Now, his mother has been awarded $8.5 million for his fatal shooting.

After the family’s attorney challenged the jurors in the case to re-enact what happened, they realized that the police version of the story just didn’t add up. According to a Chicago police officer, Harrison turned and pointed a gun at him during the chase. Witnesses at the trial, however, testified that they didn’t see a gun near Harisson until after he had been handcuffed.

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, “a mistrial was declared in May after the first jury to hear the case deadlocked. The second jury took less than three hours to decide the case.”
