20-Year-Old Trevor J. Sisto of Fort Covington Arrested After Deadly Crash

The recent car crash involving a 20-year old from Fort Covington, NY who was charged with unlawfully fleeing a Police Officer and driving while impaired by drugs was an incident that we certainly wanted to bring to light.

20-year-old Trevor J. Sisto of Fort Covington was arrested on a variety of charges that followed an automobile accident that claimed the lives of two people Thursday, July 24th. The accident occurred just before 2:00 p.m. on state Route 86 in Ray Brook.

Two people were killed in the crash, while an 11-year-old child was crucially injured. The road was closed for several hours following the accident. The New York State police said that mentioned in a press release Thursday night that a driver of a 2011 Ford F-150, who was later identified as Sisto, had struck into a 2009 Honda Fit following a brief chase by the police.

Police say that they saw the truck heading westbound on State Route 86 traveling at high speeds. It was then that the police attempted to stop him. As they approached the village of Ray Brooke, Sisto entered into the eastbound lane where he hit the Honda Fit, which was traveling east. Sisto hit the other car head on.

Sisto was immediately taken into custody. Three people inside the Honda Fit were trapped inside and needed rescued by the Lake Placid and Saranac Lake Fire and Rescue personnel. The driver of the Honda Fit, James E. Barney, 42, was pronounced dead on the scene. In the front passenger seat, Kim Barney, 38, was taken to Adirondack Medical Center and later air-lifted to Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, where she passed away. The eleven year old was in the back seat was promptly air lifted to Fletcher Allen.

Police claim that Sisto had been involved in other accidents before this one and had been driving extremely recklessly. Sisto was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, driving while ability impaired by drugs. He was also ticketed for reckless driving, failure to keep right, and speeding. Other charges are pending as the case remains under investigation.
